Why an estimate is necessary

YouTube does not publish an official CPM or RPM rate card. Actual ad rates are set through real-time auctions between advertisers, and vary by viewer, moment, and inventory availability. No outside tool — including this one — can reproduce those numbers exactly. What we can do is model a directional estimate using publicly known CPM ranges, industry-reported benchmarks, and the revenue-share structure YouTube has publicly described for the Partner Program.

What goes into the calculation

Our estimator applies a base CPM figure for the selected viewer country, then adjusts it using multipliers for:

  • Content niche — reflecting that some categories (e.g. finance, business) attract higher-paying advertisers than others (e.g. music, comedy)
  • Content format — long-form and live content are weighted differently from Shorts, reflecting the separate, pooled nature of the Shorts ad fund
  • Time of year — advertiser spend fluctuates seasonally, typically peaking in the fourth quarter and softening in the first
  • Monetized view share — not every view carries a served ad, due to ad blockers, unmonetized regions, or skipped ads, so we apply a user-adjustable percentage to reflect this

The result is an effective CPM, from which we derive an estimated RPM-style payout using the commonly cited creator/platform revenue split for long-form content and live streams within the Partner Program.

Where the ranges come from

Our country and niche CPM ranges are informed by publicly available industry reporting on digital advertising rates, creator-economy publications, and aggregated, publicly discussed creator revenue figures. Because none of this data is officially published by YouTube, we treat every figure as an approximate range rather than a precise input, and we update our assumptions periodically as public reporting evolves.

What the calculator does not account for

  • Advertiser demand at the moment your specific video runs
  • Your specific audience's engagement with ads (skip rates, click-through, viewability)
  • Channel-specific deals or brand partnerships
  • Non-ad revenue (channel memberships, Super Chat, merchandise shelf)
  • Platform policy or monetization eligibility changes made after this page was last updated

Currency conversion

Where the calculator displays results in a currency other than USD, conversion uses a daily reference exchange rate. This is provided for context only and is not a trading, banking, or payout rate.
